Chamber Business Networking Breakfast

Guest speaker: SERV Surrey & London

We’re thrilled to welcome SERV Surrey & London, an urgent volunteer blood delivery charity, who will share their unique insight into a service that’s quietly saving lives across Surrey and London — every single night of the year.

What is SERV Surrey & London (in case you’re wondering…)

SERV Surrey & London is an entirely volunteer-run charity that provides urgent transport of vital medical items — from blood products and urgent samples to donated breast milk — to hospitals, neonatal units and even air ambulances, all free of charge to the NHS.

They’re the unsung heroes of the night, turning up rain or shine, weeknights and bank holidays, ensuring that hospitals have exactly what they need when minutes matter most.

Who benefits from their work?

Patients in critical need, whether it’s lifesaving blood for emergencies or precious breast milk for fragile newborns.

  • Hospitals and neonatal units, who get rapid deliveries even when standard services can’t reach them — especially overnight.
  • Air Ambulance units, restocking every single day to keep trauma teams flight-ready.
  • The NHS overall, because every delivery SERV S&L makes saves money that can go straight back into patient care.

It’s like having an extra set of wings just when you need them — but powered by fuel, wheels… and huge amounts of goodwill.

Who does it?

SERV Surrey & London isn’t a team of robots (though sometimes we think they’re superhuman). It’s real people — riders on motorbikes, drivers in cars, controllers coordinating runs, fundraisers and supporters — all volunteers from all walks of life, giving their time and energy simply to make their community stronger and safer.

And yes, they’ve been recognised for it too: SERV S&L received The Queen’s (now King’s) Award for Voluntary Service, one of the highest honours a volunteer group can get in the UK — roughly the civilian equivalent of an MBE.

What what to expect

Expect a blend of heart-felt stories and fascinating insight, including:

  • What drives volunteers to dedicate nights and early mornings to urgent deliveries
  • Examples of how SERV S&L makes a real difference to patients and healthcare teams
  • What it’s like behind the scenes — from dispatch calls to delivering lifesaving cargo
  • How the community can support, volunteer or even simply spread the word

If you’re curious about the quieter side of “hero work” — where passion meets purpose — this talk is one you’ll want to lean in for.

We look forward to welcoming you for an engaging morning of networking, learning, and community spirit.
