In this session, chamber member Derek Mckechnie from Monro Financial Management will explore why good business planning starts with understanding risk. Whether you are starting up, growing, or planning your exit, every stage of business brings its own challenges. From the death or ill health of owners, directors and key employees to shareholder and succession planning, workplace pension responsibilities, staff retention, and wider business continuity issues, these are all risks that can affect the stability, value, and future of a business.
The talk will look at what businesses need to protect, the role insurance and financial planning can play in managing risk, and why planning for business owners, management and employees is an important part of building a stronger and more secure business.
About the speaker
Derek has over 35 years of experience in financial services, with extensive expertise in employee benefits, business protection, and holistic financial planning. Having been a business owner for over 20 years, Derek understands the real-world challenges employers face and is passionate about helping businesses create effective and valuable strategies for risk management and also employee benefits.

The Chamber’s monthly Networking Breakfasts are very popular, so do book early. Business people from the Mole Valley district and the surrounding areas come together to meet, eat and network in the third week of each month.
There is a wide range of people who attend from all sectors and all sizes. From sole traders and start-ups, to some of the biggest businesses in the district.
Each month there is a guest speaker, who talk about their own experiences of running a business and their own personal journey or give an insight into their particular skills and sector.
