Catering Team Leader Skills for Life
Job Description
Location: The Grange, Bookham
Hours: 35.25 hours per week
Accountable to: Skills for Life Manager
Line manages: Catering Tutors and Tutor Support Staff
Responsible for: Any volunteers, work placement students or internal placements of people we support working in the team.
Primary Purpose of the Role: To plan and deliver all aspects of the catering programme in a way that supports the development of technical, workplace and interpersonal skills for the people we support and takes into consideration all segments of the Wheel of Wellbeing.

Key Duties
Leadership
- To provide effective and professional line management to your team, ranging from recruitment and induction to ongoing supervision, appraisals and performance management;
- To ensure that the team is flexible and responsive to change, setting a positive model for colleagues;
- To set operational objectives for the staff team, assessing risks, monitoring progress and keeping key performance indicators as agreed with the Skills for Life Manager;
- To ensure that the team is offering a high quality enterprise experience to Skills for Life participants, with a clear and evidenced focus on personal outcomes and achievements
- To ensure that training and development is planned and delivered across the team in a consistent and effective way, to meet legal and organisational standards;
Skills Development
- To enable people we support to further their catering skills, both in terms of domestic cookery and professional capabilities for potential future work in the catering and hospitality sector.
- To integrate into skills sessions other developmental activity, taking into consideration all the segments of the Wheel of Wellbeing (eg friendship, physical health, purpose) and developing the independence of people we support at all times.
- To ensure that sessions are differentiated, in terms of level and group size, to suit the needs of the people we support.
- To support the progress of people we support towards the objectives they set at their annual reviews; to monitor progress during the year against these objectives, and to contribute reports for annual reviews.
- To encourage positive social interaction during session times, working in consultation with the Communication Support Officer as required.
- To encourage an active lifestyle and support healthy choices at all times.
Enterprise
- To ensure that the catering team plays its part in The Grange’s Enterprise Culture, working in collaboration with the Enterprise Team Leader to research and source new products or activities with commercial potential.
- To be responsible for the presentation and operation of public-facing spaces (eg The Courtyard Café) to ensure they are clean, welcoming, hygienic and enterprise-oriented.
- To carry out accurate stock control and management of catering operations.
- To work with the project team developing the new Outdoor Learning Centre, with particular reference to the proposed café and shop.
- To ensure that all products produced for sale are labelled and presented in accordance with legal requirements, and Grange branding/marketing guidelines.
Personal Development
- To attend courses, networking meetings, seminars and to complete on-line training appropriate to the role.
- To share skills and knowledge with colleagues, including the delivery of basic training in your areas of expertise.
- To represent the team and The Grange on internal and external working groups, at conferences and seminars and on ad-hoc project work, as required.
- To understand and follow The Grange’s policies, values and procedures.
Team Working
- To share skills and knowledge with colleagues, including the delivery of basic training in your areas of expertise.
- To be part of the wider Skills for Life Team, participating in team meetings, planning discussions and group activities as required.
- To involve and train volunteers to help with sessions and further improve the experience for the people we support.
- To form part of the leadership team of the Skills for Life Department, making an active contribution to the development of plans and services, and supporting Grange-wide initiatives.
Other Duties
- To support at all times the delivery of The Grange’s long term plan, its strategic objectives and priority projects.
- To represent the team and The Grange on internal and external business as required.
- To carry out other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the level of the role if requested by the Skills for Life Manager or Chief Executive Officer.
- To be responsible for your own health and safety and that of the people around you at all times, in compliance with workplace legislation and Grange policies.
- To work in a sustainable way to minimise our environmental impact, in consultation with The Greener Grange Champion.
- To ensure that the work of the Catering Team supports the delivery of The Grange’s long term plan, its strategic objectives and priority projects.
