Have your say on local government reorganisation in Surrey
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has launched a public consultation on proposals to reorganise local government in Surrey.
This is your opportunity to influence how local services are delivered and how decisions are made in your area. The consultation is open until Tuesday 5 August 2025.
Two options are being considered:
Option 1: Three unitary councils
Supported by Reigate & Banstead and eight other district and borough councils. Under this model, a new East Surrey Council would be formed to cover:
-
Reigate & Banstead
-
Tandridge
-
Mole Valley
-
Epsom & Ewell
Option 2: Two unitary councils
Supported by Surrey County Council and two other district or borough councils. This version of East Surrey Council would include:
-
Elmbridge
-
Reigate & Banstead
-
Tandridge
-
Mole Valley
-
Epsom & Ewell
How to take part
The government is asking for views from residents, businesses and other stakeholders to help decide which option is best for Surrey.
You can respond to the consultation by Tuesday 5 August 2025 in the following ways:
-
Online: Visit the Surrey local government reorganisation page on GOV.UK and complete the survey via Citizen Space
