Community voice: the Mole Valley Chamber member survey results are finally in
A few months ago, we ran a Mole Valley Chamber member survey to understand how we can better serve your business objectives and foster a more collaborative network here in Mole Valley, Surrey. The data from our October survey is now compiled, and the overarching message is clear: our members highly value peer-led, actionable business insight over passive or general-interest programming.
The feedback suggests that the core value of the Chamber lies in its collective expertise. Below is a summary of the outcomes and what they mean for our strategy moving forward.
The top three initiatives
Based on the survey scores for both appeal and motivation, three distinct initiatives emerged at the top of the list.
Skill-sharing workshops (score: 280)
This was the highest-rated concept in the Mole Valley Chamber member survey. Members expressed a strong preference for practical, peer-led business workshops hosted by fellow members, featuring rotating facilitators who can teach unique skills in areas such as finance, leadership and marketing.
Digital member spotlights (score: 263)
There is a clear appetite for greater visibility within the network. Highlighting members’ stories, expertise and commercial milestones across our digital channels was identified as a priority for anyone doing business networking in Mole Valley, Surrey.
Business problem-solving panels (score: 254)
Rounding out the top three is a collaborative format where members present real-world operational challenges to a panel of peers to receive structured feedback and advice.
The common feature: structured peer exchange
Looking across these top three selections, as well as the fourth-place peer-led mastermind groups (score: 253), there is a distinct common thread: a shift away from passive listening toward structured, high-value peer exchange.
Our membership is largely composed of established, systems-minded business owners. The data indicates that you do not attend events merely to fill a slot, but rather to access guidance that directly impacts how you run and grow your business. This is exactly the kind of business networking Mole Valley Surrey businesses have told us they want more of.
It’s a preference borne out nationally too. The government’s own Peer Networks programme, which ran business support for SMEs through action learning sets and one-to-one guidance, was specifically designed to improve SME productivity and resilience through this kind of structured peer learning. It’s reassuring to see our members independently arriving at the same conclusion: that learning from fellow business owners, in a structured setting, delivers real results. Hampshirechamber
Key takeaways from your commentary include:
- Commercial relevance. A demand for core business topics over general-interest presentations.
- Facilitated collaboration. A strong interest in structured formats where participants have dedicated time to unpack specific challenges with their peers.
- Operational flexibility. Recognition that traditional breakfast meetings can exclude those with morning family commitments, suggesting a need for varied times and informal touchpoints, such as afternoon coffee or post-work meetings.
Next steps
The Chamber’s leadership team will be reviewing these results to refine our upcoming calendar, with peer-led business workshops set to feature more prominently. The goal is to move toward a model that leverages the substantial brainpower already present in our membership, ensuring that your time spent with the Chamber delivers a genuine return on investment.
